TYMOTHY

TYMOTHY
(Phleum pratense)
Forage type
A late perennial grass species with a relatively weak root system. It is the most winter hardy and frost resistant of the forage grasses. It requires fertile, well irrigated stands, but can tolerate seasonal draught in the vegetation period. It does not re-grow as well as the other forage grass species, and is moderately tolerant to trampling. It is one of the basic components for almost all meadow and pasture grass mixtures. Timothy is characterized by a very favorable nutritive composition, adequate digestibility, and high palatability. It is eagerly consumed by animals.
