COCKSFOOT

COCKSFOOT
(Dactylis glomerata)
Forage type
Cocksfoot (orchard grass) is a tall perennial grass species, with good persistence and winter hardiness, as well as very fast re-growth after cuts. It is very aggressive- cocksfoot and tall fescue are amongst the most aggressive grass species. Thanks to a well developed root system, it tolerates seasonal draught, even on lighter soils. It is used as a component in forage mixtures, but can also be grazed by animals, or cut for hay. It reacts vigorously to nitrogen fertilization, producing high green mass yields. The nutritive value of cocksfoot is limited due to the presence of substances unfavorable to digestive processes.
